Despite Dickerson endorsement, Stokley still down on Mannion

Despite a ringing endorsement from not only “The Drive” co-host Alfred “Big Al” Williams but Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson, Brandon Stokley can’t fathom Sean Mannion as the Denver Broncos quarterback of the future.
On Monday, the “Stokley and Zach” co-host said he “seriously doubts” Mannion, the Los Angeles Rams backup to Jared Goff, is the “next great quarterback.”
“If he falls to you, and you can take a look for nothing, for cheap, then you do it. But, he’s not going to be your plan,” Stokley said.
Instead, Stokley said he’d opt to trade for a quarterback like Nick Mullens, who went 3-5 in eight starts for the San Francisco 49ers this past season under the guidance of newly-named Broncos offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello.
“Nick Mullens would be a perfect fit here, for us, under Rich Scangarello and his offense. But, we’ll see,” Stokley said, adding that Mannion would be a “perfect fit” for the Cincinnati Bengals, who just hired former Rams offensive coordinator Zac Taylor as its head coach.
Last week, talking to Big Al and DMac on radio row at Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta, Dickerson said that if Mannion “goes to the right situation, he can be a star.”
Said Williams: “I would go for Sean Mannion. He’s been stuck in the backup role there with the Rams. I would bring him in, treat him as if he is my first-round draft pick quarterback this year, play him, and let the organization grow with him.”
A third-round pick by the Rams in 2015 out of Oregon State, Mannion has played minimally in his four years in the league, starting just one game (a loss) and completing just 33 passes on 53 attempts for 258 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception.
