Should Vic Fangio, the Broncos coaching staff be at the Senior Bowl?

This week a good number of NFL evaluators descended on Mobile, Alabama, to watch college prospects participate in the Reese’s Senior Bowl.
But to the surprise of those like “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Cecil Lammey, new Broncos head coach Vic Fangio and his staff stayed in Denver this week.
“The fact that Vic Fangio is not here is interesting. I don’t necessarily like it,” Lammey told “The Drive” on Thursday. “I think he should be here. I think it’s unusual that he’s not here …”
Earlier Thursday, Fangio addressed the topic following a press conference to introduce his trio of coordinators — Ed Donatell, Rich Scangarello, and Tom McMahon.
“(General manager) John (Elway) and his guys went there, so we had enough eyes there to do that,” Fangio said. “I think at this stage, there are more pressing things, better things to do at our time as coaches here.”
Lammey, however, balked at the idea that there might be more important things to attend to than participating in the Senior Bowl process.
“I mean, what other things do they have going on right now that are more important than finding this talent, than meeting with this talent, than sitting down and talking to these young prospects?” Lammey said. “I think it’s all part of the process. And the more eyeballs on this thing, the better.”
“The Drive” co-host Alfred “Big Al” Williams said that if he were a coach in the NFL, he’d almost feel like he wasn’t doing his job if he wasn’t at the Senior Bowl.
“He said he had better things to do with his time. We’re talking about this is still January. I don’t know what’s better in January than scouting players,” Williams said.
Williams’ co-host, DMac, said Fangio and his staff’s absence from the annual all-star game likely indicates that they’ll not be deeply involved in the draft process this offseason, that Elway and fellow executive Matt Russell are “going to pick the guys.”
“Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley championed a similar argument, saying, “To me, maybe that’s saying that we’re not going to be really heavily involved with the draft process.”
