Evans takes Munchak over Fangio, no interest in ‘breaking in’ another HC

The Denver Broncos, by many reports, have narrowed down its head coaching search to two names: Vic Fangio and Mike Munchak.

And while both check off the “experience” box among general manager John Elway’s criteria for the new play-caller, only Munchak has head coaching experience, which to “Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mike Evans means he should have a leg up on Fangio.

“I’m not interested in breaking in another new head coach for the first time. I mean, say what you will about Mike Munchak, and his record wasn’t glittering for those three years in Tennessee, but at least he’s got three years,” Evans said. “He’s got three years of experience being a head coach.”

Munchak, in three seasons as the Tennessee Titans head coach, strung together just one winning season, ending up with a 22-26 overall record.

In comparison, Fangio has nearly four decades of experience as a coach but not once has he held a head coaching position on the college, professional, or any other level.

And coming off a head coach in Vance Joseph who had a similar background in terms of head coaching experience, Evans said that the Broncos can’t afford to go back to that well.

“I don’t care if he’s been coaching for 30 years, he’s still never been a head coach,” Evans said, adding that he just doesn’t get Fangio’s involvement in the Broncos coaching search.
