Schlereth: Lack of identity, repeated mistakes cost Vance Joseph his job

Following a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in the team’s season finale on Sunday, the Denver Broncos have parted ways with head coach Vance Joseph after two seasons.
“Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mark Schlereth said the Broncos decision to fire Joseph should “come as a surprise to nobody,” laying out several key factors that led to his dismissal.
A lack of identity
Schlereth said during Joseph’s two seasons as head coach the Broncos never “truly established” an identity.
“It is the head coach’s responsibility to let his team know exactly what they are and what’s expected of them,” Schlereth said.
Blowout losses
Of the 21 losses the Broncos have accumulated during the past two seasons, seven of them were by 14 points or more and 10 came to teams two or more games under .500 at the time of the matchup.
“Sometimes (the Broncos were) totally uncompetitive or losing to teams of inferior talent,” Schlereth said.
Repeated mistakes
Too many times during the past two seasons, Schlereth said, the Broncos failed to learn from their mistakes, a quality that reflects poorly on Joseph.
“When you repeat mistakes over and over, it shows a lack of leadership and a lack of coaching,” Schlereth said.
