Stokley: Expect ‘big day’ vs. Bengals from Broncos LBs Miller, Chubb

Against a “young, young” quarterback making his first start in the NFL, Denver Broncos pass rushers Von Miller and Bradley Chubb could have a banner day against Jeff Driskel and the Cincinnati Bengals, said Brandon Stokley on Friday.

The “Stokley and Zach” co-host said he believes Broncos defensive coordinator Joe Woods should dial up the pressure and come after Driskel.

“I expect them to have a big day. I do,” Stokley said. “… I think you’ve got a young quarterback that will take some bad sacks. And he will have some plays will have Marvin Lewis and company scratching their heads.

“I mean, he’s a young, young quarterback, and you’ve got two dynamic pass rushers.”

The Bengals are also banged up along the offensive line, with left tackle Cordy Glenn doubtful for Sunday’s game and his backup, Jake Fisher, recently placed on injured reserve.

“They’ve had a lot of injuries up front,” Stokley said. “You’ve got to take advantage if you’re the Broncos front and get after them up front and cause havoc.”

However, Stokley said that the RPO game the Bengals will likely turn to with Driskel under center might throw a hitch in the Broncos ability to rush the passer on Sunday.

“Now you’re more on guard when you have a quarterback like Jeff Driskel, when you have a quarterback that can run, when you have a quarterback where you’ll seeing more RPOs,” Stokley said. “You’re more defensive.”

Stokley said the Broncos must be sound in their technique and that Driskel’s athletic ability will make defenders be two-dimensional.

“They have to play both the run and the pass,” Stokley said. “Obviously, with our defensive front, you want them to pin their ears back and go get the quarterback.”
