As playoff odds improve, Broncos mum on postseason prospects

Don’t look now, but the Denver Broncos have snuck their way back into the AFC playoff picture with another signature win against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
At 5-6, the Broncos sit just a game back of the final wild card spot, tied with the Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins, and Tennessee Titans and behind the 6-5 Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens.
“Feel free to scream it from the Rocky Mountaintops: The Broncos are legitimate playoff contenders after an opportunistic win,” wrote “Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mike Evans after the game.
But while playoffs are the ultimate goal for Denver, the team is taking it one game at a time.
“We’re taking it one week at a time. We’re at a ‘whatever it takes’ type mindset,” said quarterback Case Keenum after the game. “We said that for the last two weeks, but we’re going to take it one week at a time.
“We’re going to try and go 1-0 and just literally whatever it takes. We’re not leaving any field with any shots left. We’re going to fire all of our shots.”
Head coach Vance Joseph said after the game the team is taking a micro-level approach to things, trying to go “1-0” each week.
“Our deal has been 1-0 every day. That’s every meeting, every lifting session, every practice, and win every play,” Joseph said. “We won’t change that.”
Cornerback Chris Harris Jr. championed his coach’s sentiment after the game, saying they’re “just taking it one game at a time.”
“We’ve got another tough AFC North opponent, and I think if we just continue to focus on one game as this team, that’s what we need. That’s the main focus that we have, 1-0,” Harris said.
The Broncos take on the Bengals next week on the road to kick off a stretch of sub-.500 opponents, including the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, and Oakland Raiders.
According to FiveThirtyEight.com, Denver is favored to win in all but the Cincinnati game, where they have a 48 percent chance of victory.
