Rockies lock up outfielder Charlie Blackmon long-term with 6-year deal

A major piece of the Colorado Rockies lineup will remain at 20th and Blake for the foreseeable future, as the club announced Wednesday that it had agreed to a six-year contract with outfielder Charlie Blackmon.
The deal includes two player options, the Rockies said, which could keep him in purple pinstripes until 2023.
Blackmon’s new deal comes on the heels of his National League batting title in 2017, along with his second Silver Slugger award.
Last season, Blackmon hit for a career high .331 batting average —career-high setting personal bests in games played (159), hits (213), runs (137), triples (14), home runs (37), total bases (387), and RBIs (104) — on the way to a fifth-place finish in the NL MVP voting.
Also in 2017, Blackmon became one of just seven players in MLB history to have at least 135 runs, 213 hits, 35 doubles, 14 triples, 35 home runs, and 100 RBIs in a single season — joining company like Stan Musial, Joe DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig, and Rogers Hornsby.
In five games so far this season, Blackmon leads the Rockies in doubles (2), home runs (4), RBIs (6), total bases (20), and OPS (1.462).
Colorado selected the two-time all-star (2014 and 2017) in the second-round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of Georgia Tech.
All-time in Rockies history Blackmon ranks among the top 10 players in franchise history in a number of statistical categories, including third in stolen bases and fourth in batting average.
