Broncos place tackle Menelik Watson on injured reserve

Nov 8, 2017, 8:38 AM | Updated: 9:02 am

An already tough 2017 season for Denver Broncos right tackle Menelik Watsons has come to an end.

The Broncos announced they had placed Watson on season-ending injured reserve after the offensive lineman suffered a foot injury during Sunday’s 51-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

In a corresponding roster move, the Broncos signed former Buffalo Bills tackle Cyrus Kouandjio.

Watson, whose season might be more known for a sideline proposal during Week 3 of the Broncos preseason, had battled through a calf injury much of the season before being shelved this week.

The Broncos and Watson agreed on a three-year, $18.375 million contract during the offseason, with $5.5 million guaranteed, in an attempt to rectify a Denver offensive line that gave up 40 sacks in 2016, ninth worst in the NFL.

In his seven starts for Denver, Watson ranked 69th in the NFL among all tackles, according to Pro Football Focus, receiving a “poor” grade of 38.9.

In three seasons with the Bills, Kouandjio has played in 25 games, starting seven — including five in 2016 at left tackle. An Alabama product, Kouandjio was selected by Buffalo in the second round (44th overall) in the 2014 NFL Draft.
