Penalties plague Broncos in 51-23 blowout road loss to Eagles

Among the wreckage of the Denver Broncos blowout loss, 51-23, on the road to the Philadelphia Eagles you can find 105 yards. That’s the yardage the Broncos gave away via penalty Sunday.

Three Eagles first downs came by way of penalty, and now, halfway through the season, the Broncos rank No. 23 in the NFL in terms of penalty yards on offense and No. 18 on defense.

After the game, head coach Vance Joseph called the team’s 14 penalties on the game “unacceptable.”

“We can’t have those. We’re just trying to make plays and got off on the snap count too early. We can’t have it. Even the holding penalties, we can’t have it.”

Broncos guard Ron Leary said after the game the penalties kill any momentum Denver had on offense and said those, along with the turnovers, frustrate him.

“… You can’t give up, you can’t go in the dumps, because we still have eight more games,” Leary said. “It is not like you can quit in the middle of the season and start all over, so we just have to keep working every week and fix what we have to fix and just get ready to win.”
