By the numbers: Broncos suffer shut out for first time in 25 years

Oct 23, 2017, 12:00 AM | Updated: 7:12 am

For the first time in nearly a quarter century, the Denver Broncos failed to notch any points against an opponent.

After the game, wide receiver Demaryius Thomas said he “didn’t even know that stat” but that being shut out in the NFL, especially with a team as talented as the Broncos, “hurts.”

“We got shut out. We have to figure it out,” quarterback Trevor Siemian said after the game.

Head coach Vance Joseph called it “unacceptable.”

Here are some figures that better illustrate the magnitude of Sunday’s 21-0 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers:

1992: The last year Denver failed to score a point in a game, which, coincidentally, also occurred in Los Angeles, against the Rams, on Nov. 22

8: The number of games the Broncos previous shutout-less streak reached, which happened twice in the 1992 season (Sept. 20 at the Philadelphia Eagles and Nov. 22 at the L.A. Rams)

394: The number of games the Broncos went between shutouts, which had been the longest active streak until Sunday

375: The number of consecutive games the Indianapolis Colts had gone between shutouts, a streak that was also snapped with a 27-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday

10: The number of times Denver has been shut out in franchise history

4: How many times the Chargers (both in San Diego and Los Angeles) have shut out the Broncos, the most of any team against Denver

2: The number of points Denver put up in a Sept. 22, 1968, bout against the Kansas City Chiefs, the lowest points mark aside from shutouts in the club’s history

0: The number of times the Broncos have been shutout at home
