Pritchard: Broncos locker room may be in jeopardy after Chargers loss

1. Broncos offensive line problems persist.

The NFL is a non-excuse league. And the Denver Broncos do not have one player on its entire roster who can play right tackle.

After the game, head coach Vance Joseph said, “We’re not blocking well. We’re not protecting well. We had some good plays called again today, we had some guys wide open, and we’re just not hitting the passes.

“I mean, it’s puzzling. We’ve had great weeks of practice. Offensive line-wise, we’ve run the ball very well up until two weeks ago. So, we’ve got to coach better and play better, obviously.”

They must go out and get a player to help out.

2. A trio of recurring issues

The same three areas of concern hurt the Broncos chances of winning Sunday in Los Angeles.

Once again, there were too many 3rd-down-and-long situations, turnovers throughout the entire ballgame, and only one trip inside the red zone, which came late in the contest.

Said quarterback Trevor Siemian after the game: “I just feel like we haven’t been really good on first and second down, and in turn, thirds have gotten tougher for us. That was one of the things we hung our hat on early on, being good on third downs.

“Well, we were in third-and-five or less a good bit of the time. I think the one thing, I’ve said, these last two weeks I haven’t played good enough. I’ve turned it over. It’s tough for these guys to win.”

3. Will the Broncos defense start to get frustrated?

The coaching staff will have to do an excellent job of keeping the team together after this loss.

This is the time when players could lose confidence within the locker room, though Von Miller said after the game they’re “not going to point fingers.”

“We’re all pros. We’re all brothers in there,” Miller said. “I mean, it’s tough when you don’t put up any points. It’s terrible. Organizationally, when you look at the scoreboard and there’s a big goose egg up there, it’s terrible.

“But, we’re not going to point fingers. We could have bailed them out. We could have got a turnover.”
