Stokley: Broncos game could be last for McAdoo as Giants head coach

Oct 12, 2017, 12:00 AM | Updated: 8:51 am

It’s safe to say the New York Giants season hasn’t exactly played out to expectations. And things could get worse for the club, specifically head coach Ben McAdoo, on Sunday, as they travel to Denver to take on the Broncos.

Aside from the 0-5 start to the season, the Giants will play shorthanded Sunday, especially at wide receiver. The club placed two of its top three receivers — Odell Beckham Jr and Brandon Marshall — on injured reserve this week while another — Sterling Shepard — did not practice on Wednesday due to injury.

New York also won’t have cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who reportedly walked out of the team facility this week and has been suspended.

But could the Broncos put the final nail in the Giants “dumpster fire” of a season?

Brandon Stokley says yes.

The “Stokley & Zach” co-host said on Wednesday that it’s hard to imagine things getting worse for the Giants, already down three wideouts to injury, but that “things are snowballing quickly.”

“If the Broncos go out there and put a beatdown on the Giants, I think that’s probably Ben McAdoo’s last game,” Stokley said. “You look at this and the direction that they’re heading and the expectations that they had there in New York, and I don’t know what else to say.

“Do you just continue going through this with him or do you just move on now and just get away from him and just kind of start over again?”

In 2016, McAdoo and the Giants rolled to an 11-5 record and a playoff berth in his first season as a head coach in the NFL.

But this season, in just five games, New York has tied its loss mark from the previous year.

And prospects for turning that round Sunday against the Broncos are slim.

On Tuesday, Boomer Esiason, a national NFL analyst and morning host on the Giants flagship station WFAN-AM in New York, said all signs point to a “slaughter” on Sunday night at the hands of the Broncos.

“This is going to be a slaughter on Sunday night in Denver,” Esiason told “The Drive” on Tuesday. “This is a team that’s basically has lost its way. It’s got no personality.”
