Lammey: Vikings push hard to bring in QB Sloter to practice squad

Sep 2, 2017, 2:32 PM | Updated: Sep 3, 2017, 11:13 am

Multiple teams have expressed interest in freshly cut Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Sloter, sources tell Fan Football Insider Cecil Lammey.

The Broncos waived the rookie on Saturday as part of the team’s roster cutdown with the hopes of signing him to the practice squad.

However, Sloter needs to clear waivers before the team can re-sign him, which sources have indicated to Lammey they strongly wish to do.

Sloter, a college free agent out of the University of Northern Colorado, took to Twitter on Saturday afternoon to thank Broncos fans for the support over the past four preseason games.

In four preseason games, including a start in Game 4 on Thursday against the Arizona Cardinals, Sloter passed for 413 yards (9.6 yards per attempt) on 31-of-43 passing for three touchdowns.

The rookie gunslinger did not have an interception in the preseason and earned a quarterback rating of 125.4, 40 points ahead of Denver’s starter Trevor Siemian and 50 ahead of backup Paxton Lynch.

Lammey reports that sources told him Sloter was waived partly due to the Broncos not wanting to put a rookie in a position where he could be just a hit away from starting.
