Two key Broncos defenders say they want to be back in Denver next year

The Denver Broncos defense was elite this season.

And they were excellent in the AFC Title Game against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Vance Joseph’s group held the Patriots to only 10 points, seven of which were gifted by a bad fumble from Broncos QB Jarrett Stidham. Denver lost 10-7 and fell one step short of the Super Bowl.

And while the group will undoubtedly look different next year, there’s change every NFL offseason, two key defenders said on Monday they want to be back.

Both John Franklin-Myers and Alex Singleton met with the media and expressed similar sentiments.

On the season, Franklin-Myers had 25 tackles and 7.5 sacks. The Broncos paid a lot of guys on the defensive line, but not him, something Franklin-Myers made clear again on Monday. Denver has yet to offer him a new contract.

He signed a two-year deal with the Broncos worth $15 million, but its now run out. Franklin-Myers will be a free agent, so it’ll be curious to see if head coach Sean Payton and GM George Paton try to keep him.

Meanwhile, Singleton just finished a three-year, $18 million contract. He led Denver in tackles with 135 during the regular season and forced a key fumble against the Buffalo Bills to help the Broncos get as far as they did. Singleton also bravely battled testicular cancer during the season, something he was very public about.

At times, Singleton looks a bit slow on the field, but you also can’t deny he’s a tackling machine. That’ll be another big decision the Broncos’ brass has to make.

It’s always a bummer when another year ends, but the NFL offseason is full of juicy storylines. The future of Franklin-Myers and Singleton will be two to watch, with both expressing they don’t want to leave.
