Sean Payton says ‘it felt like a playoff week’ in last comments before Broncos and Bills

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton had one final press conference on Thursday before kickoff this weekend.

At this point, what is there left to say?

The Broncos will welcome in the Buffalo Bills on Saturday afternoon at Empower Field at Mile High. The winner goes to the AFC Championship Game, the loser sees its season come to an end.

After practice, Sean Payton was asked about the intensity around the team and them anticipating the opportunity that awaits.

“I feel like, certainly, it felt like a playoff week, practice week different than (regular season) and it should. But it felt different,” Payton said.

It should because this is a one-and-done format. 14-3 during the regular season and snagging the No. 1 seed in the playoffs was awesome. But if the Broncos lose to the Bills, it’d undoubtedly leave a sour taste. The Denver players have bigger goals than just making the divisional round.

“I think they get it,” Payton said. “You know, it’s a great opportunity.”

It’s a great opportunity for the Broncos to be only one step from the Super Bowl should they win. This is a rematch from a wild card contest last year, one Denver lost 31-7, but Payton hasn’t dug into that much.

“I really haven’t brought up last year’s playoff game. I think it was a different team,” Payton said.

He went on to say the Broncos did watch some film from that game, but this is a new opportunity.

You can certainly feel the buzz in the city and Sean Payton made it clear that same energy exists on the practice field and in the locker room.

At this point, all that’s left to do is kick the football off and see who comes out on top.
