Sean Payton ‘rooting’ for players Broncos will have to eventually cut

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton was in a good mood after his team smacked the Arizona Cardinals 27-7 on Saturday night.

It was a stark contrast from a week ago, where Payton was “pissed off” about 14 different things after a win against the 49ers.

And even though his starters didn’t play against the team from the desert, Payton’s backups showed out.

The depth was apparent, but right now there are 90 guys on the squad. That will go down to 53 in just about 10 days.

Sean Payton was asked about the plethora of NFL players he has and gave a solid answer.

“I think there are going to be a number of tough decisions. But I’d rather be in that position than the position we were in two years ago at this time,” Payton said.

Two years ago is when Payton took over team. Denver had a boatload of money invested in Russell Wilson, something that failed miserably, but they’ve rebuilt in a hurry.

“I think that the talent level has gradually gotten better and so these guys they’re are all competing. And we say this to them, it’s serious, like we’re rooting for all of them. Like, we’re rooting for their best, and I think there’s going to be some players that end up on other team’s rosters, playing. That’s part of the deal,” Payton said.

At the end of the day, the Broncos will keep their best guys.

But as Sean Payton noted, if some land on another roster it means his was simply too deep.

That’s the hallmark of a Super Bowl contender.
