Sean Payton predicts Bo Nix to be a top-5 NFL QB soon, talking Super Bowl

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton is always a good interview.

But sometimes he’s at his best in 1-on-1 settings.

While it can get Payton in trouble, like his viral comments about Nathaniel Hackett a couple of years ago, it can also provide tremendous insight into the team.

Payton had two quotes to Yahoo’s Charles Robinson that are certainly going to get people talking. The first was about his young QB Bo Nix, with Sean Payton making a bold prediction about where Nix will stack up with the rest of the league soon.

“He’s going to be one of the top four or five quarterbacks in the league the next two years,” Payton told Robinson. “That’s what we’re seeing right now. He doesn’t take sacks. He’s got exceptional arm strength. … He threw the longest ball — [67] air yards against Cincinnati. He can run. He can throw in funny body angles.”

The throw against the Bengals last season, a touchdown to Marvin Mims Jr., was certainly special. But in a league with Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and a ton of other great quarterbacks, that’s a strong prediction from Payton.

Still, you have to love his confidence in Nix, who was sixth in the NFL in touchdown passes as a rookie with 29.

And Sean Payton also feels like this Broncos team can hoist the Lombardi Trophy this season.

“The short-term goal is winning the division,” Payton told Robinson. “But this is a team capable of winning the Super Bowl. I’ve coached six teams that I thought could win the Super Bowl. Some went to championship games, some to the playoffs. This is my seventh team that I think has that.”

Payton has said as much during training camp, noting that Denver can’t be afraid of the “end game,” which would be a championship.

At the end of the day, those are two bold things to put on the record. Broncos Country has to love the supreme confidence Sean Payton has, now the team must deliver on the field.
