The Broncos fired former head coach Vic Fangio this past January after three incredibly mediocre seasons.

Fangio went 19-30 during his time in Denver, marred by uninspiring efforts, terrible clock management and questionable challenges. It was clear to almost all Broncos fans it was time to move on after a 7-10 mark in 2021.

Not only did Broncos GM George Paton show Fangio the door, he hired a polar opposite head coach in Nathaniel Hackett. Hackett is an offensive mind, 21 years younger and full of positive energy. Fangio was a defensive guy whose defenses underachieved in Denver. He was also grouchy at times, to put it bluntly. Hackett is none of those things.

After he was let go by the Broncos, many assumed Fangio would immediately find a new job. He did have success as the defensive coordinator in San Francisco and Chicago, but other than a head coaching interview in Jacksonville, their didn’t seem to be a ton of interest.

So is Fangio’s coaching career over at the age of 63? If it’s up to him, that won’t be the case.

Could a team with a bad defense in 2022 take a chance on Fangio in 2023? Sure. He does have a good track record as a defensive coordinator. But his time in Denver did not go well, at all, so another head coaching opportunity most likely won’t come up.

We’ll see if anyone takes a chance on Fangio, but he’ll spend this season watching on television like the rest of us.
