Courtland Sutton is thrilled about his new QB, gives great news on his knee

Broncos WR Courtland Sutton met the media and raved about Russell Wilson, plus delivered the news he's working out without a brace on his knee

Watch: The Broncos should give Sam Ehlinger a real shot against the Packers or the backup QB competition was a farce | 1 min

Broncos WR Courtland Sutton didn’t quite look like himself in 2021.

After tearing his ACL in Week 2 of the 2020 season against the Steelers, Sutton made it back in time for training camp, but had a down season. Yes, part of that was poor quarterback play, but Sutton had just 58 catches for 776 yards and two touchdowns. That was a far cry from his Pro Bowl year in 2019 when Sutton put up 72 catches for more than 1,100 yards and six touchdowns.

But that’s all in the past and at Broncos offseason media availability on Tuesday afternoon, Sutton was jacked up and ready to go. He’s is ecstatic that Russell Wilson is his new quarterback.

“I think that you all can feel it, we all can feel it, the juice is just different,” Sutton said when asked about the energy in the building with Wilson. “I wasn’t around when Peyton (Manning) was here, but from what I’m hearing the juice and the energy is pretty similar. Knowing that we have a guy that has been at the top of that mountain before… I think everyone in the building understands the expectations, that standards are being risen.”

And with new standards and expectations, the conversation couldn’t help but turn back to that pesky ACL. Sutton delivered some very good news when asked about it.

“Going through (last) season, each week was a little bit better. This offseason I’ve been training without the brace, running without the brace. My body feels amazing. I’m just really excited to get everything going. There’s so much buzz, so much excitement that’s coming around our team going into this season. I’m just excited for that,” Sutton said.

That is huge news for the Broncos, as Sutton is the best wide receiver on this team when fully healthy. Yes, Jerry Jeudy has potential and Tim Patrick has been reliable, but there’s no doubt Sutton should develop as Wilson’s No. 1 target this year.

The fact Sutton’s already been to San Diego to throw with Wilson is another positive development, but also that he’s doing it without a brace and any limitations should make Broncos fans smile.

There was a new buzz and energy from Sutton on Tuesday afternoon. A large part of that has to be him feeling healthy, but an even bigger part is assuredly that he finally has a quarterback.
