SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The Broncos weren’t going to play a game without a fullback.
Thus, they officially moved Adam Prentice back up to the 53-player roster, formally making the move on Saturday. The move was a necessity in order for Prentice to play in the Week 4 game against the San Francisco 49ers, as his limit of three promotions from the practice squad to the game-day roster was exhausted last week.
Prentice and long snapper Mitchell Fraboni were both waived at the roster deadline, but quickly brought back to the Broncos’ 53-player roster with the intent of being elevated for the first weeks of the season. Often, roster spots for such players to return to the primary roster open up naturally; that was the case for Fraboni, who was promoted from the practice squad as a corresponding move when running back Jonah Coleman landed on injured reserve.
But the Broncos didn’t have any players to add to injured reserve this week. As a result, they opted to release wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey on Friday, moving him to to the practice squad Saturday.
With Prentice and Fraboni on the Broncos’ 53-player roster and wide receiver/returner Marvin Mims Jr. healthy after missing the last two games with a foot injury, the Broncos did not elevate anyone from the practice squad for Sunday’s game. This is only the fourth game in the last three seasons without at least one practice-squad elevation.
