Broncos practice without D.J. Jones as they head inside

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos took practice inside the Pat Bowlen Fieldhouse as snow fell in the Denver area, but worked without one of their starting defensive linemen.

D.J. Jones was consigned to the sideline Wednesday, as he was seen standing, walking around and watching the session without a helmet as on-field preparations for Sunday’s game in Las Vegas got under way.

Jones suffered an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s 27-26 overtime win over the Las Vegas Raiders. He did not return, playing a season-low 19 snaps.

Joining Jones among the players out of practice was tight end Nate Adkins, who continues to be sidelined with the knee injury that he suffered in the fourth quarter.

Coach Sean Payton indicated last week that Adkins could possibly return to the field this week, but for now, it appears the waiting will continue for the versatile tight end.

Denver played the game against Washington with just two tight ends: Adam Trautman and Evan Engram, as the Broncos chose not to move Marcedes Lewis to the 53-player roster.

Lewis remains on the practice squad, but the Broncos have used the season limit of three elevations on the 41-year-old veteran, who became the oldest player ever to wear a Broncos uniform in a regular-season game.
