ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos practiced without running back J.K. Dobbins as they began preparing for Sunday’s massive game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Given the foot injury that he suffered last Thursday — and the second opinion that he reportedly sought

But that was just the beginning of the Broncos’ list of absences, which contained few surprises given recent news, but nonetheless were noteworthy.

Five other players did not practice Wednesday:

  • Tight end Nate Adkins, who injured his knee in the fourth quarter of the Oct. 26 win over Dallas and has not practiced since then.
  • Edge rusher Jonah Elliss, who suffered a hamstring injury last Thursday night. Elliss missed two games in October due to a shoulder injury he incurred at Philadelphia in Week 5.
  • Wide receiver Trent Sherfield, who has played in all 10 games — including three starts — so far this season. Sherfield dealt with a knee issue during the Nov. 2 game against Houston but played a season-low 18 total snaps — 13 on offense, 5 on special teams — four days later against the Raiders.
  • Linebacker Alex Singleton, who underwent surgery last Friday following a testicular-cancer diagnosis and announced Monday that he would be unable to play against the Chiefs while recuperating from the procedure. A timetable for his return will be determined after pathology from his procedure determines his further treatment.
  • Cornerback Pat Surtain II, who has not practiced since suffering a strained pectoral muscle late in the first half against Dallas.

Inside linebacker Karene Reid, who suffered a hamstring injury last Thursday, landed on injured reserve Tuesday.

BRONCOS GOT MARVIN MIMS JR. BACK IN UNIFORM

Marvin Mims Jr. practiced and wore a helmet Wednesday, giving him his first such practice work since suffering a concussion in the fourth quarter against the Cowboys. He saw limited work in the Broncos’ walk-through session Nov. 4, but did not play against Las Vegas two days later while working through the league-mandated post-concussion protocol.

Lil’Jordan Humphrey, who returned to the Broncos on Wednesday from the Giants’ practice squad, was not seen on the field at the start of practice. His addition is expected to become official later Wednesday.
