But three players were not on the field when the Broncos began practice prepping for Arizona, including Talanoa Hufanga

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Running back Jonah Coleman and cornerback Pat Surtain II were on the field Wednesday as the Broncos began their first practice of the week in advance of their Week 7 trip to Arizona.

Coleman, who landed on injured reserve since Week 3, is eligible to return to the 53-player roster this week after missing the last four games due to a sprained ankle suffered against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Surtain sat out the last two games after injuring his ankle against the San Francisco 49ers, but the Broncos chose not to put him on injured reserve given the expected brevity of his recovery time. His presence on the field Wednesday appeared to affirm that decision.

With Surtain sidelined the last two weeks, Jahdae Barron played every defensive snap in that pair of games. Kris Abrams-Draine played all defensive snaps against the Los Angeles Chargers on Oct. 11, then played all but 20 defensive snaps against the Seahawks in place of Riley Moss, with Moss working 20 snaps as the Broncos eased the fourth-year cornerback back into work following the rib injury that sidelined him against the Chargers and in the second half of the Oct. 4 loss at San Francisco.

THREE BRONCOS NOT ON FIELD WHEN PRACTICE BEGAN

Running back Tyler Badie, edge rusher Jonah Elliss and safety Talanoa Hufanga did not participate in Wednesday’s work.

Hufanga missed last week’s game due to an ankle injury suffered Oct. 11 against the Los Angeles Chargers, with practice-squad player Taylor Rapp handling the bulk of the snaps in his place after receiving a game-day elevation.

Badie left last Thursday’s game with a thumb injury. Elliss hobbled off the field in the final moments of regulation last Thursday and left via cart; two days later he was seen at the CU-Utah football game at Folsom Field standing on cruthches while wearing a boot on his right leg.

Elliss’ potential absence this week dovetails with edge rusher Jonathon Cooper’s return.

Wednesday afternoon, Cooper went his first on-field paces since the preseason. Cooper spent the first six weeks of the regular season on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, but was cleared for a return to the 53-player roster last Friday.

Cooper’s trial dates on domestic-violence charges are set for March 2-4.
