Broncos officially rule Jonah Coleman out for Week 3

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Broncos rookie running back Jonah Coleman won’t get a chance to build off his breakthrough performance last Sunday — at least not right away.

The team officially ruled him out for the Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Rams due to an ankle injury he suffered. Coleman was listed as not practicing for all three days of on-field work this week, although he was seen on the field during pre-practice stretching.

While Broncos coach Sean Payton did not comment directly on Coleman, he did say that the team doesn’t have a policy of holding a player out of a regular-season game due to an injury that might not prevent him from playing in the playoffs.

“There’s nothing that we’ll do relative to a decision that changes because of postseason and regular season,” Payton said. “In other words, if a player can play, we’re going to play him, and if they can’t, we’re not going to. And it would have no bearing as to Week 3 or the championship round.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that Coleman had a sprained ankle.

Coleman had 58 yards from scrimmage last Sunday, including 39 yards and a touchdown on 10 rushing attempts. He didn’t carry the football in the Week 1 loss at Kansas City.

OTHER RUNNING BACKS GOOD TO GO FOR BRONCOS

But the Broncos will have both J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey at their disposal. Both had full participation in the final two days of practice this week after dealing with hip and hamstring issues, respectively. They were listed without a designation for Sunday’s game, meaning they are expected to play.

Wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. is listed as questionable after seeing limited practice snaps throughout the week. Mims missed Week 2 due to a foot issue, which he has been battling since suffering a foot bruise in the Aug. 28 preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings.
