Bo Nix gushes over getting Tim Tebow’s autographed jersey: ‘My 12-year-old self is just going crazy right now’

DENVER — The legend of the Broncos’ 2011 season, quarterback Tim Tebow, was back at Empower Field at Mile High for the first time since crafting the last of his little miracles during that division-title campaign, and Bo Nix wasn’t going to let the moment pass without spending some time with him.

But Nix also wanted a souvenir.

The third-year quarterback left the game Sunday with the Broncos’ first 2026 regular-season win under his belt — and something else: an autographed jersey.

“It’s really cool how the Lord works. He was drafted here long time ago and then I’m here and then we get to do our jersey swap and now I got a signed Tim Tebow jersey forever and my 12-year-old self is just going crazy right now,” Nix said after the Broncos’ 20-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Coincidentally — or perhaps now? — the Jags are Tebow’s hometown team, as well as the club with whom he had his final NFL hurrah as a tight end trying to make the team in the 2021 preseason, the first and only campaign for Urban Meyer as the club’s head coach. Meyer guided Tebow during his four spectacular seasons at the University of Florida.

Tebow took part in the ceremonial Broncos Country flag planting prior to kickoff of Sunday’s game, although he had a slight mishap when the flag flew off its pole as he waved it with vigor.

It was in watching Tebow during those college years that Nix, then in elementary school, grew to admire Tebow. In the years since Nix ascended to a starter in the SEC (Auburn) and PAC-12 (Oregon), the two met and got to know each other.

Nix has called Tebow a “childhood hero” of his.

“We’ve formed a great relationship over time,” Nix said. “As I’ve gotten older and as I’ve gotten a little bit more on in the football world, we’ve just been able to connect a little bit more and he understands what I go through on a daily basis.”

Nix and Tebow are the only two quarterbacks drafted by the Broncos to guide the team to postseason wins. So, they don’t just share faith and football — they share a significant accomplishment in Broncos history, too.
