The Denver Broncos were purchased by the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group (WPFOG) for $4.65 billion in the summer of 2022.

At the time it set a record for the most expensive purchase of a team in North American sports.

Oh, how quickly thing change. And what a good investment for the WPFOG.

Sportico released current valuations for all 32 NFL teams on Wednesday and the Broncos are 15th in the league, worth a whopping $9.18 billion. The WPFOG has basically already doubled its investment.

That’s also a 40 percent increase from last year, as the price of sports franchises continues to go through the roof. The Los Angeles Lakers just sold for $12.5 billion on Wednesday morning.

The highest valued team in the NFL is the Dallas Cowboys at $15.5 billion, according to Sportico. They’re followed by the Rams, Giants, Patriots and Jets, all worth more than $10 billion.

Last on the list is the Cincinnati Bengals, who could fetch an estimated $7.4 billion in a sale. That’s still nearly $3 billion more than what the Broncos went for in 2022.

And Denver fans have been thrilled with the WPFOG as they’ve put a winning product back on the field and just completed a stunning new practice facility at Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit.

A new stadium remains a goal for 2031, although there have been a few headaches along the way. There’s no question the WPFOG is committed to being first class in everything they do with the Broncos.

The ownership group is also getting an excellent return on its investment, while cutting no corners. That’s a victory for everyone involved.
