Former CU Buffs star Travis Hunter undergoes knee surgery, out for season

Travis Hunter hasn’t had the rookie campaign that many Colorado Buffaloes fans thought he would after winning the Heisman Trophy in his final season in Boulder. The two-way phenom was taken with the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, but they didn’t give him the same opportunities to shine like the Buffs did.

His season took a turn for the worse recently, as the Jaguars put him on IR following a non-contact knee injury he suffered at practice. It turns out that the injury was much more serious than some originally thought, as it was announced on Tuesday that Hunter underwent surgery to repair his LCL and he will miss the remainder of the season.

Reports indicate that he should be back to full football activities in six months, which means that he should be a full go for training camp in July. For minicamp and OTAs in the late spring, it’s too early to tell whether he’ll be ready to go or not.

Hunter had just had his best offensive showing as a pro in the last game he played before suffering the injury. He became the WR No. 1 and caught eight passes for 104 yards and scored his first touchdown during a blowout loss to the Rams in London. On the season, he played a combined 486 snaps, split with 324 of those on offense and 162 snaps on defense. In total, he put up 28 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown on offense along with 15 tackles and three pass deflections on defense.

He’s missed time with injuries in his lone season at Jackson State, both his seasons at Colorado, and now this year with the Jaguars.
