Broncos trade up for quarterback Trey Lance in latest mock

The NFL Draft was completely reshaped during the chaos that unfolded with the 49ers, Dolphins and Eagles trades in late March, and now quarterback-needy teams might need to shift their focus.

The Denver Broncos are still in need of a quarterback for competition with Drew Lock and the latest Pro Football Focus mock has Denver trading up for North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance.

The Atlanta Falcons have options sitting with the third-overall pick in the draft.

In PFF’s mock, the decision to draft a quarterback to sit behind Matt Ryan and his $40 million dead cap hit isn’t justifiable.

Another option for the Falcons could be to draft their favorite non-quarterback, but with so many holes in the team’s current roster the move to trade back would be the most beneficial.

“The Broncos have a legitimate, playoff-caliber roster assuming they get even average quarterback play,” PFF’s Ben Linsey wrote. “Drew Lock (62.1 PFF grade since 2019) hasn’t shown enough through his first two years in the NFL to have much confidence in that assumption entering 2021. The addition of Lance gives Denver one of the most talented quarterbacks in a loaded 2021 class and a better opportunity to find their guy at the game’s most important position.”
