The Miami Dolphins are trading the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to the San Francisco 49ers, according to NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Filed to ESPN: Dolphins trading No. 3 overall pick to the San Francisco 49ers for the No. 12 pick, a 2021 third-round pick (SF’s comp pick for Robert Saleh hiring) and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023, per sources.

In the deal San Francisco will send the No. 12 pick, a 2021 third-round pick and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023 to Miami.
According to Schefter, the 49ers did not trade up with one quarterback in mind — the team traded up because they’re comfortable with the options that will be there with the third pick.
The Dolphins, however, find themselves back in the top-6 after the Philadelphia Eagles traded the sixth overall pick to Miami in exchange for the 12th overall pick and a 2022 first-round pick.
This trade happened minutes after the 49ers deal.
Eagles traded their sixth to the Dolphins for No. 12 and their 2022 first-round pick. Teams also swapped mid-round picks — Eagles' pick 156 for No. 123.

Quarterbacks Trey Lance, Justin Fields or Zach Wilson could be available, but the message from the 49ers is obvious — drafting a quarterback is in their future.
