Report: Coach Prime adds yet another former NFL player to his staff

Coach Prime has done it again, adding another former NFL player to his staff.

Former QB Byron Leftwich is reportedly joining the University of Colorado football team, although his official title is unclear and nothing has been announced yet by the program.

This comes from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, who says Leftwich looked around at pro jobs, but ultimately is headed to Boulder.

Leftwich joins the likes of Warren Sapp and Marshall Faulk who are teaming up with Deion Sanders to try to bring CU a Big 12 championship and perhaps even eventually a national championship.

Leftwich played in the NFL from 2003-2012, with stops in Jacksonville, Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay. He was the offensive coordinator for the Buccaneers from 2019-2022, winning a Super Bowl with Tom Brady as his quarterback.

He had been spotted in Boulder in recent days, and there’s even a video making the rounds of Leftwich getting introduced to the players by Coach Prime earlier this week.

Logically, Leftwich will work with the quarterbacks at Colorado, but again nothing has been announced publicly just yet. It’s also worth noting that Sanders still hasn’t signed his contract extension with the university, so Leftwich might be viewed as a potential long-term replacement should Coach Prime only want to do this for another year or two.

Regardless, it’s another big hire, as the Buffs assemble an All-Star coaching staff with the hopes of improving on their 9-4 record from a season ago.
