The Colorado Buffaloes need a spark. Their season is already on the ropes after an uninspiring 36-20 defeat to open conference play against Houston last week, and they have a difficult conference schedule looming in the near future.

On Tuesday, Coach Prime brought a famous face to Buffs practice to talk with the team. No, it was not someone like Randy Moss who has an infinite amount of football knowledge and wisdom to share with the team.

Instead, it’s famous rapper Ice Cube in town. He is notorious for being a die-hard Raiders fan, and starred in the 2008 football film “The Longshots.”

“I’m pretty sure a lot of people come out and talk to y’all. They got a lot to say, you know, but the thing is, you guys got the best of the best [as] far as your coaches. [You] got Hall of Famers. Listen to what they say… They’re gonna tell you how, not only trying to get to the next level, which I’m pretty sure you all are, but also how to be great men in life and get up through all these difficult times that you’re gonna face in your life. Listen to that advice… Do not complain about what you don’t get because of the work you didn’t put in… So put in the work, and it’ll pay off… Much respect. Have a great practice.”

There’s no question that the rapper and actor gave some great life advice to these young men, but from a football standpoint, none of that is going to move the needle much. This is a team that needs better coaching on the field, as all three games this season have proven that the Buffs do not have the advantage on the sidelines despite the plethora of gold jackets and experience that Prime has brought to town.

Since the Buffs are two-touchdown favorites over Wyoming this week, it’s not the worst time to bring a non-football face to town, but given how they’ve looked on the field the last two weeks, it’s not the greatest look.

Ice Cube is another name that can be added to the star-studded list of names to Coach Prime has brought to town to speak with the Buffs. It’s been a key part of the new culture he’s instilled in Boulder since he first arrived in town in December 2022.
