CU Buffs land nation’s top receiver in the portal

No receiver in the country gained more yards this past fall than Danny Scudero, and now he’ll be playing for the black and gold, announcing his transfer to the CU Buffs on Sunday.

A 5-9 playmaker from San Jose, he was named a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award. Scudero caught 88 passes (fifth-most in the country) for 1,291 yards (nation’s best) and 10 touchdowns (12th-best in FBS). The San Jose State standout Sophomore had just transferred from Sac State last offseason and became an AP Second Team All-American in his lone season for the Spartans.

Scudero had six games where he went for at least 100 yards receiving, including a big-time 215-yard game in a shootout win against Hawaii. Another wild performance was during a loss to Wyoming, where he scored all four touchdowns for San Jose State on the back of 180 yards.

At Sac State, he caught 52 passes for 664 yards and five touchdowns during his redshirt freshman year, but he left before he got a chance to link up with now Colorado Buffaloes offensive coordinator Brennan Marion. The former Sac State head coach arrived in Boulder a few weeks ago, bringing his Go-Go offense, which has featured receivers like Jordan Addison and Xavier Worthy in the past. That would be a boon for soon-to-be redshirt freshman quarterback Julian “Ju Ju” Lewis, who has so much talent and flashed it during his few starts for CU this past fall.

Danny Scudero is planning to enter the transfer portal and should have a lot of suitors.

If Scudero isn’t Lewis’ top target, Deion Sanders gifted him another option in the portal on Saturday. Kam Perry is transferring from Miami of Ohio, where he was the third-best wideout in the MAC, according to Pro Football Focus. This fall, he caught 43 passes for 976 yards and six scores.

The Buffs are also hunting a four-star portal wide out, signaling they’re not done with their offense, which does need to replace the highly productive Omarion Miller.

As of now, Scudero joins Perry and the already in Boulder Joseph Williams to make up Lewis’ top targets. The last man had 37 catches for 489 yards and four touchdowns during his first season at CU.

Aside from Scudero and Perry, Sanders has hit the transfer portal to add former Monmouth DL Lamont Lester Jr. and former Charlotte DL Yamin Talib, as well as RB Damian Henderson.
