Deion Sanders loses one of CU’s top players to the portal

Deion Sanders didn’t do enough to keep Julian Lewis’ top target around for when the quarterback becomes the full-time starter next fall, Omarion Miller is hitting the transfer portal, according to Rivals.

Miller was the Colorado Buffaloes‘ leading receiver in 2025, hauling in a team-best 45 catches and a team-high 808 yards, as well as the most receiving touchdowns on the team at eight. With Shedeur Sanders hitting the NFL, the Buffs’ receiving room underwent some major changes this fall and it cleared the way for Miller to become CU’s top guy.

But Miller has always had something special, getting his first real action in his third college game during his freshman year wher he caught seven passes for 196 yards and a touchdown. Buried behind a bunch of NFL talent, Miller’s next chance didn’t come until his second season, when he had two big games. He had 71 yards and a touchdown in the overtime win against Baylor, and then he went off for eight catches and 145 yards in what was a crushing loss to Kansas State.

Miller was more consistent than flashy in 2025 and part of it was the Buffs’ struggling passing game. He was solid in almost every game, but he boomed for two 100-plus receiving games in the Buffs’ final three contests — and he clearly has some chemistry with Lewis, who was a starter as a freshman late in the year.

So now Coach Prime has to figure out what he’s going to get Lewis on the outside. Aside from losing some big name reccivers to the draft, Sanders also ran out Jordyn Tyson, who is expected to be one of the NFL’s top picks this year out of Arizona State. For the former corner that moonlighted as a wide receiver, Sanders has to rebuild both units on the outside this offseason while keeping Lewis and his coveted offensive lineman Jordan Seaton in Boulder.
