Report: Nuggets wouldn’t include Jamal Murray in potential Jaylen Brown trade

Denver Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray is beloved in the Mile High City.

That doesn’t mean he hasn’t played his last game with the Nuggets.

Team owner Josh Kroenke said earlier this offseason that Denver would listen to trade offers for everyone but Nikola Jokic this summer.

That might be the case, but Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown wasn’t going to be a member of the Nuggets if a deal included Murray.

Brett Siegel of Clutch Points published an extensive look at the Brown trade on Friday. He eventually landed with the 76ers for a package that included Paul George and a slew of draft picks. Denver checked in, according to Siegel, but wasn’t willing to part with Jamal Murray.

“Denver was a team sources say Brown did hold a level of interest in going to, but the Nuggets’ preliminary talks were solely focused on Aaron Gordon and Cam Johnson. Trading Jamal Murray was not on the table for the Nuggets, and with Denver holding zero tradeable draft capital, the Celtics looked elsewhere,” Siegel wrote.

It’s interesting because it sounds like the Nuggets could’ve had Brown if they really wanted him. But Murray wasn’t going to be in the package, instead with Denver execs Ben Tenzer and Jonathan Wallace ready to deal Gordon and / or Johnson.

The Celtics pivoted and Brown ended up in Philadelphia.

It’s a decision that will be debated the rest of the offseason, especially if the Nuggets can’t land LeBron James, who appears to be their main focus.

For now, Jamal Murray remains in Denver.

That’ll make a lot of fans happy, with others wondering if the team should’ve pulled the trigger and paired the former NBA Finals MVP with Jokic.
