Report: Former Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. could get traded again

The Denver Nuggets made a huge move this offseason when they traded Michael Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round draft pick for Cam Johnson.

Porter had disappeared in the playoffs each of the last two years and the Nuggets needed to move his max contract to free up salary cap space.

Denver’s new front office of Ben Tenzer and Jonathan Wallace had a great summer, adding the likes of Johnson, Tim Hardaway Jr., Bruce Brown and Jonas Valanciunas. They couldn’t have made so many additions without getting out of the Porter contract.

And while head-to-head right now Porter is significantly outperforming Johnson, the Nuggets are off to a franchise best start at 19-6. The Nets, devoid of much talent, are a terrible 7-18.

Michael Porter Jr. is putting up big numbers for Brooklyn, averaging 25.6 points per game, 7.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and shooting 39.9 percent from the three-point line.

However, this could make him trade bait, as the Nets look to rebuild and Porter is by far their best asset.

“Michael Porter Jr. is young enough to serve as a building block for Brooklyn. Whether the Nets choose to sell high or retain him as part of their next iteration will be among the NBA’s top storylines leading up to the trade deadline,” Erik Slater of ClutchPoints reports.

Obviously, if Porter does get traded, Nuggets fans hope he stays in the East. The West is clearly the stronger conference, so him being back in the mix wouldn’t make Denver and a handful of other franchises happy.

On the other hand, even playing with Nikola Jokic, Porter went cold for long stretches in the biggest games. This could be a case of him putting up huge numbers on a bad team.

Regardless, this will definitely be a situation to watch over the next couple of months. Michael Porter Jr. could see his tenure in Brooklyn be a short one.
