Nuggets rejected offer for Nikola Jokic to play in Greece in ‘a few seconds’

The Denver Nuggets had an insane offer put in front of them pertaining to superstar Nikola Jokic.

It took them a “a few seconds” to reject it, according to the man who made it.

Dimitrios Giannakopoulos is the owner of Panathinaikos in Athens and tried to pry away Jokic from the Nuggets, according to Giannakopoulos himself.

He went on the “Euro Insiders” podcast recently and explained his wild idea.

“I did make a very serious proposal this year both to his team and to him. I got a rejection. I know that he has one more year of a contract,” Giannakopoulos said.

What “very serious” means is anyone’s guess, but considering Jokic still has more than $120 million left on his current deal with the Nuggets, Giannakopoulos sounds pretty out there.

And even if Nikola Jokic opts out of his deal next summer and becomes a free agent, Denver can offer him a deal worth $359.5 million over five seasons. It would be the largest in NBA history, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.

Giannakopoulos made it clear that neither the Nuggets nor Jokic were interested in entertaining such a bizarre thought. Although he vowed to try again next offseason.

“It took a few seconds (for the Nuggets) to say, ‘Who? Greece? Where? What? Bye,'” Giannakopoulos said. “But let’s wait until next year.”

It’s borderline ridiculous this is even making headlines. Nikola Jokic has committed the Nuggets over and over again and has never expressed any desire to play in Europe. He’d also (presumably) be making way less money to suit up in a worse league, so the idea is inconceivable.

Giannakopoulos added he’s not joking about his “very serious proposal.”

He can think that, but unfortunately for him, Denver and the rest of the NBA is laughing.

There’s nothing to see here. Nikola Jokic is not going to play basketball in Greece anytime soon — most likely ever.
