The Colorado Rockies, yes, the world-famous (for all the wrong reasons) 2025 Colorado Rockies, defied the odds at Coors Field on Thursday afternoon and erased a five-run deficit en route to an 8-7 walk-off victory over the San Francisco Giants. It was the 13th victory of the year for Colorado, and the second against the Giants.

In a season filled with so many lows and not a lot of highs, a moment like this holds more weight than a walk-off for a team that’s more towards the middle of the pack in the standings. After the game, interim manager Warren Schaeffer emphasized just how important the win, and the fashion of the win, was.
“That was good, I think that’s big for our club,” Schaeffer said after the win. “It’s big for us right now, it’s big for us moving forward. Something you can build on. Just the how, the how we got there, never quit, down the whole game, kept going. It’s very similar to what the Giants did on us both nights previous[ly], but knowing that we were down after losing those first two games the way we did and we kept coming, it’s a testament to the boys.”
The Rockies had a sizable lead in the first two games of the series, leading by three runs in the ninth inning in Tuesday’s loss and three runs again in the eighth inning in Wednesday’s loss. The bullpen could not hold on to the line in both outings, resulted in two crushing losses, even for the Rockies’ standards.
In the win, Schaeffer’s ball club was down 7-2 entering the sixth inning, and 7-5 entering the ninth. Thanks to two strong at bats that drew walks from Sam Hilliard and Ryan McMahon, Brenton Doyle and Arcia did the dirty work to bring the three runs home and put a seal of approval on the victory, and give the fans at Coors Field free tacos.
“It’s important to come back like we did and keep going, and then get a win on top of that,” Schaeffer said. “Arcia could’ve popped out to end the game right there and it would still have been a good battle going all the way to the end, but it is more important to feel that victory. The boys, they feel that, it’s just been a while since we felt like that today.”
Thursday’s victory was the lone win during the Rockies’ six-game homestand over the past week. They are now headed to the East Coast for a seven-game road trip against the Braves and the Nationals. The first game from Atlanta is set to get underway on Friday night, with first pitch at 5:15 p.m. MDT.
