Rockies Report, Game 128:
ROCKIES BOTTOM LINE: An early 1-0 lead evaporated in the middle innings at the expense of starter Tanner Gordon and reliever Zach Agnos as the Cleveland Guardians dealt the Rockies a fourth-consecutive loss in this homestand, pounding Colorado 9-1 in front of 26,800 at Coors Field on Friday night.
Willi Castro drove in what proved to be Colorado’s sole run, bringing home Jake McCarthy with an RBI single. McCarthy and TJ Rumfield had both drawn first-inning walks from Cleveland starter Joey Cantillo, and by the end of the game, Colorado batters walked seven times against five Cleveland pitchers.
But the Rockies were unable to capitalize. They left two on in the fourth inning and the bases loaded in the fifth. They also left a pair of runners on base in the seventh and eighth innings, but by that time the Guardians had pushed their lead to 8-1.
Cleveland scored in five consecutive innings from the third inning through the seventh, gradually pulling away and dropping the Rox to 50-78.
ROCKIES STARTER’S REPORT
Tanner Gordon largely kept the Guardians under control until surrendering three-consecutive one-out hits in the fourth inning, the last of which saw Travis Bazzana drive in a pair of runs to put the Guadians in front to stay. Warren Schaeffer ultimately lifted Gordon after 5 1/3 innings and 82 pitches.
The sixth inning began with a single and a balk; after Gordon retired Cleveland catcher Patrick Bailey on a fly out, Gordon’s night concluded with five earned runs, nine hits and a pair of walks. He fell to 0-4.
BITS AND PIECES
IT WAS DECIDED FOR THE ROCKIES WHEN: Bailey crushed a hanging Zach Agnos sinker 418 feet into the Colorado bullpen for a three-run homer, pushing the Guardians’ lead to 8-1.

NUMBER TO NOTE: 11 — Runners left on base for the Rockies, who had their chances but frittered them away most of the night.
WHAT’S NEXT: Gabriel Hughes looks to get on track in Saturday night’s 6:10 p.m. MDT affair. Cleveland will counter with Tanner Bibee; the Guardians have dropped five-consecutive games he’s started and 19 of his 26 starts overall this season.
