The Rockies brought Chase Dollander up to make his major-league debut last month. Now, they appear poised to call up another one of their top pitching prospects to start his major-league journey.

This time, it will be Carson Palmquist who makes his MLB debut. MLB.com’s Thomas Harding was first to report the expected move.

The No. 9-ranked prospect in the Rockies’ system at the start of the season according to MLB Pipeline, Palmquist reached AAA Albuquerque last year and remained there to start the 2025 season. He improved his WHIP from 1.840 in nine starts at AAA last year to 1.132 this year; he also cut his HR/9 rate from 2.0 to 0.8.

That mirrored the improvement he had last year at AA Hartford from his form during a late-season callup to the Yard Goats in 2023. While in Hartford, he set a club record with a 13-strikeout game last July 5, helping him earn his AAA promotion.

The Rockies drafted Palmquist out of the University of Miami in the third round of the 2022 draft, with the No. 88 overall choice.

Palmquist will become the sixth player among the Rockies’ top 25 prospects — per MLB Pipeline — called up since the start of the season, joining Dollander (No. 1), infielder Adael Amador (No. 7), outfielder Zac Veen (No. 8) and relievers Jaden Hill (No. 18) and Zach Agnos (No. 25).
