Rockies DH Kris Bryant will get procedure done on his back in Los Angeles

Colorado Rockies DH Kris Bryant made it until April 14 this season before being put on the injured list.

It’s his ninth stint on the IL with the Rockies since signing a massive seven-year deal worth $182 million in the spring of 2022. Bryant has played in only 170 games with Colorado during that span, while the club has participated in more than 500.

And while Bryant told the media back in late April he’s dealing with pain and nausea as he tries to get back on the field, he’s now doing something a little more drastic.

According to Thomas Harding of MLB.com, Bryant will fly to Los Angeles to have a procedure done on his back. The details of it don’t sound real fun, including a potential scare that delayed this decision.

“They actually go into the bone and try to kill the nerves to the vertebrae,” is a pretty intense quote from Kris Bryant.

On one hand, the Bryant contract is one of the worst in Denver sports history and fans are rightfully upset. On the other hand, you have to at least admire he’s putting his body through this with the hopes of playing baseball again in the somewhat near future.

The problem is, that baseball hasn’t been very good.

In his only 11 games so far this season, out of a possible 34, Kris Bryant is hitting for a .154 average while striking out 13 times in 39 at-bats. Bryant has had a negative WAR in each of the last three seasons with the Rockies, barely being positive in 2022, his first year with the club.

Now, it’s time for a procedure to hopefully try to cure his back troubles once and for all.

Fingers crossed this helps Kris Bryant get the relief he’s seeking and we see him back in a Rockies uniform at some point this summer.
