Schlereth: ‘I don’t want to see Josh Rosen in Denver’ with Broncos

With the need for a quarterback of the future and speculation Arizona will take Kyler Murray No. 1 overall in the upcoming NFL Draft, some have floated the idea of the Denver Broncos pursuing a trade for the Cardinals top pick last season, No. 10-overall, Josh Rosen.

On Monday, however, “Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mark Schlereth said that if the Cardinals are ready to move on from Rosen after just one season, it’s not in the Broncos interest to trade for him, even if it’s in exchange for something as low as a third-round pick.

“Me personally, I don’t want to see Josh Rosen in Denver,” Schlereth said.

Schlereth questioned whether it’d be wise for the Broncos to trade such “valuable draft commodity,” given the need for an upgrade to Denver’s roster, in exchange for Rosen.

“Listen, he’s not your guy. And somebody will bite. Somebody will have him on their roster. Good for them. I just don’t think at this point it makes sense for the Broncos to be that somebody,” Schlereth said. “They’ve got too many other needs that they need to fulfill, and Josh Rosen as a backup quarterback, in my estimation, is not one of those needs that they need to invest highly in.”

Mike Evans, Schlereth’s co-host, said there’s “definitely something” to the thought that something is amiss with Rosen if Arizona’s willing to move on from him after just one season, but the price for him in return is too hard to ignore.

“I’m just saying that if you’re a team that has to find and has to have an answer at some point down the road and should be in the business of developing and drafting a quarterback every single year, I think using a third-round pick on Josh Rosen is fine,” Evans said.

Last week, “Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley said he’d pass on Rosen unless the price, for instance, a third-round pick, made sense.

But on Monday, Stokley said he’s coming around more to the idea that even a second-rounder in exchange for the once highly-touted quarterback could make sense for the Broncos, especially given his contract situation.

“It’s set up nicely for you, his contract is. And it might warrant you to go and throw a second-round pick at the Cardinals to see if you can get him,” Stokley said. “I think it’s worth the risk for the Broncos. It would get me excited about … the possibilities.”

Per Spotrac.com, Rosen is set to make a base salary of $570,000 in 2019, $660,000 in 2020, and $750,000 in 2021.

“That is quarterback minimum wage in the NFL,” said Stokley’s co-host, Zach Bye.
