Broncos should pass on Rosen trade, Stokley says, unless at right price

After measuring well at the NFL Scouting Combine last week, Kyler Murray seems to have vaulted himself into the conversation for the No. 1-overall pick in April’s NFL Draft, which means the Arizona Cardinals could be shopping last year’s top pick, Josh Rosen.

With the Denver Broncos potentially looking for the quarterback of the future to pair with the quarterback of right now, Joe Flacco, should the club be interested in acquiring Rosen?

“You know my feelings on Josh Rosen. I think I made it pretty obvious and evident last year that I wouldn’t touch him or select him just because I was concerned about what kind of guy he is in the locker room, what kind of guy he’ll be, what kind of teammate he’ll be,” said “Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley on Friday.

“He might be great. But I’ve just heard too many things. And so, for me, that’s like, if I’m taking a quarterback early in this draft or last year’s draft, I want to make sure that guy checks off a lot of the boxes. And he wasn’t checking off enough for me. So, a year later, no. I’m good.”

However, Stokley said he might change his mind depending on the price. For instance, he’d take a flier on Rosen in exchange for a third-round pick, even with Flacco presumably in the starting role for Denver next season.

“You could still bring him in. Why not? I mean, you still could. That’s not stopping you for a third-round pick,” Stokley said. “Look, if you’re saying it’s going to cost me a third-round pick for Josh Rosen, to take a look at that guy, yeah, sure. He’s very talented. Now, the risk is lowered a lot.”

Among the five first-round quarterbacks taken in the 2018 NFL Draft, Rosen (37th in the NFL) was graded the lowest, behind Baker Mayfield (8th), Josh Allen (27th), and Lamar Jackson (34th).

In 14 games (13 starts), Rosen completed just 55.2 percent of his passes for 2,278 yards, 11 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, and a passer rating of 66.7.
