Christian McCaffrey, the former Valor Christian star running back and son of Broncos legend Ed McCaffrey, was involved in a practice altercation on Wednesday. The ensuing scuffle injured a fan.

McCaffrey’s Panthers are in New England, participating in joint practices with Bill Belichick and the Patriots. McCaffrey was running the football and hit by Patriots defensive lineman Deatrich Wise Jr. — the shot appeared to be borderline late and while McCaffrey was nearly out of bounds.

ESPN reports McCaffrey then spiked the football at Wise’s feet, leading to a scrum. Unfortunately, it bled over into the stands and that’s when a fan suffered a foot injury. ESPN says the fan refused medical attention from Patriots personnel, but was offered tickets to a game this season.

Wise reportedly apologized to the fan, with McCaffrey shaking her hand as well. After practice, McCaffrey and Belichick were spotted walking off the field together, and McCaffrey spoke to the media addressing what happened.

The Panthers and Patriots are scheduled to play in a preseason game on Friday night. We’ll see if any more fireworks happen in the actual game.
