Denver NWSL announces that “Colorado icon” Peyton Manning has joined ownership group

The Denver NWSL franchise added another Colorado legend to their ownership group on Tuesday as they announced that Peyton Manning would be joining the group

The Denver NWSL team continues to make groundbreaking announcements as the franchise prepares for its inaugural season in 2026. On Tuesday morning, the team made another splash, as they announced that “NFL legend and Colorado icon” Peyton manning would be the next addition to the star-studded ownership group that already features Mikaela Shiffrin.

The former Broncos signal caller and Super Bowl 50 champion has made the Mile High City his home since his arrival in 2012, and has continued to find ways to be heavily involved with the sports around town.

“Peyton’s legacy as a champion and a leader is second to none,” Rob Cohen, the controlling owner of the franchise, said. “His impact on Colorado sports is unmatched, and we’re incredibly proud to have him as a partner. He brings passion, insight, and deep local roots — all of which will help us shape the future of Denver NWSL.”

In his 17 years on the field, Manning won two Super Bowls (including MVP in Super Bowl 41), five MVPs, a Comeback Player of the Year award in 2012 after coming back from neck surgery, the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2005 and two AP Offensive Player of the Year awards. He was a 14-time Pro Bowler and a 7-time All-Pro. He made the All-2000s team as he put up numerous elite seasons with the Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts.

“It’s a real honor to be part of something so meaningful to the Colorado community,” Manning said. “I’m proud to support the growth of women’s sports and excited to help build a club that our city and our state can rally behind.”

This is another addition to the list of things Manning has done after his playing career, which includes the founding of Omaha Productions, a production company that produces “Peyton’s Places” and the “ManningCast” (which has won a handful of Sports Emmy’s), teaching at the University of Tennessee (his alma mater), hosting the ESPY’s, starting his own charity, and more.

Manning had some fun with the announcement, as he and his brother Eli shared the moment in a video where the two are on a FaceTime call with each other.

Denver NWSL has announced that they will play in a temporary stadium for the 2026 and 2027 seasons as they build their permanent home in the Santa Fe Yards area just off of I-25 and Broadway, which is projected to be ready to go for the franchise’s third season of action. The temporary stadium site will also be the home of the team’s performance center, which should still be in use after they are done using the temporary stadium.
