"It was good to see him play well and it was good to see us block well and make some plays down the field," Sean Payton said of Bo Nix

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton was in a spicy mood after his team beat the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.

Payton’s postgame press conference lasted fewer than six minutes, short for him, with Payton eventually walking off the podium and possibly slamming a door based on the sound.

But whatever happened to tick Payton off wasn’t the performance of Broncos QB Bo Nix.

He bounced back nicely in Denver’s 30-16 win, rushing for a 62-yard touchdown and throwing a 52-yard score to RJ Harvey as well.

Nix has been criticized heavily in the media the last few weeks, but Sean Payton was clear the Broncos are sticking behind him.

“Listen, I think for our team, offensively, all those of those things. Yeah, I mean, the confidence inside of the building relative to his ability hadn’t changed at all,” Payton said.

Overall, Nix finished 15-29 through the air for 222 yards with the one passing touchdown and no turnovers. He added seven carries for 73 yards (and a TD), by far his best output of the season.

“I appreciate some guys, sometimes you’re answering questions about whether or not… and there’s not one time where we were… he’s our guy. And it was good to see him play well and it was good to see us block well and make some plays down the field,” Payton said.

Those are two emphatic answers from Sean Payton, making it known the Broncos never lost faith in Nix inside team headquarters and that he’s “our guy” moving forward.

Next up for Denver is a huge test against the Chiefs at Empower Field at Mile High. Now at 5-2, the Broncos could potentially be leading the AFC West with a victory in that contest — if Kansas City loses to Seattle later on Sunday Night Football.

It’s the kind of offensive game that Sean Payton, Bo Nix and all of Broncos Country desperately needed.
