Jonathon Cooper now has arraignment date set for end of August

Denver Broncos outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper had a virtual hearing in a Douglas County courtroom on Friday morning.

And he now has an arraignment date set for Aug. 31, according to multiple reports. That will give Cooper a chance to plead “guilty” or “not guilty” to charges filed against him following two arrests in June. Both involved incidents with his girlfriend and Cooper is facing a felony charge of domestic violence.

According to 9NEWS and 104.3 The Fan insider Mike Klis, Jonathon Cooper recently completed in-person counseling and a mental health program.

The Broncos are set for their preseason finale on Aug. 28 against the Minnesota Vikings, three days before Cooper’s arraignment. The regular season will open on Sept. 14 at the Kansas City Chiefs.

Klis notes that the “legal system could potentially play out for months to come” with Cooper. Once he enters a plea, a trial date is likely to be set. That might not be until 2027, according to Klis.

The Broncos will now need to decided if Jonathon Cooper will be on the practice field when training camp opens next week. He could also be facing a suspension from the NFL.

There are still more questions than answers when it comes to Cooper’s future in Denver and with football, but the next court hearing is in a little more than a month.

That doesn’t mean the Broncos can’t take action one way or another before then.
