Rockies looking to close month strong against Miami

The Colorado Rockies can finish their first month at .500 since May of 2024 if they win their next two games.

The team’s opponent is their 1993 expansion siblings from Miami — the Marlins. The Fish are one one of the hotter teams in baseball, having won eight of their last 10 and rising to 44-40 on the season, good for third in the NL East. They’re seeking a postseason appearance, where they haven’t won a game in a full season since winning the World Series in 2003.

The four-game set starts Monday at Coors Field. There are some changes coming to the Rockies rotation as Tanner Gordon comes back off the IL and Tomoyuki Sugano has his start pushed back.

In Monday’s game, former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara, who is 8-4 with a 4.01 ERA takes on the young Sean Sullivan, who is 0-2 with a 8.25 ERA. Tuesday will have Gordon go against Eury Perez. Then Max Meyer will face Kyle Freeland. Thursday’s starters have not yet been announced.

The Rockies have the worst record in MLB at 33-51, but are a much better 11-13 in June. This is their last push to finish a month .500. But when the calendar turns the stove will also get hot with Colorado expected to sell, shipping players out of town.
