Rockies place Ryan Feltner on injured list

Rockies pitcher Ryan Feltner made it through just two innings of his appearance Thursday against the San Diego Padres, and despite his postgame hope that he wouldn’t miss a start, the team opted to place him on the 15-day injured list Friday due to inflammation of the right ulnar nerve.

Feltner said that making his next turn in the rotation was “the goal,” but that now goes by the wayside.

The injury was initially described as right-triceps tightness.

“We’ve been working on it in the training room for the past few days. It just got a little bit more tight than we would have liked in the second inning, so, we took a precaution,” Feltner said Thursday.

But Feltner also dealt with numbness in his fingers during Thursday’s game, which saw him allow three consecutive baserunners in the second inning before escaping trouble and giving way to reliever Zach Agnos.

Feltner has a 1.500 WHIP and a 6.30 ERA over five starts to date this season.

Earlier this month, José Quintana missed time due to a right-hamstring strain, while Kyle Freeland is currently on the 15-day injured list due to left-shoulder inflammation.

Freeland is scheduled to have another bullpen session Saturday in New York, as reported by Kevin Henry of The Denver Gazette. If all goes well, he should be activated to return to the rotation during the Rockies’ current road trip, which starts with a three-game series against the Mets and continues early next week in Cincinnati.
