Broncos tied for most Pro Bowl selections in the NFL with six

The Denver Broncos had six players selected for the Pro Bowl, tied for the most in the NFL.

That news was announced on Tuesday morning, with defensive lineman Zach Allen, tackle Garett Bolles, outside linebacker Nik Bonitto, guard Quinn Meinerz, cornerback Pat Surtain II and wide receiver Courtland Sutton all earning the honors.

The Broncos, Ravens, 49ers and Seahawks all had six guys receive the nod, the highest number in the league.

Of course, Denver fans and players hope these six guys don’t actually play in the Pro Bowl. It’s scheduled for Feb. 3 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, just days before Super Bowl LX. If the Broncos are in the biggest game in sports, Allen, Bolles, Bonitto, Meinerz, Surtain and Sutton will sit out — preparing for something much more exciting. 

It’s been an excellent year for all six and this recognition is well deserved. It’s the fourth time Surtain has been picked for the Pro Bowl, second selection for Bonitto and Sutton and first time honors for Allen, Bolles and Meinerz.

Player selections for the AFC and NFC rosters for the Pro Bowl were determined by the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches, with each group’s vote counting as one-third toward determining the all-stars. Clearly, the Broncos have earned respect all around the league, both with fans and those in it.

Denver is 12-3, still sitting at No. 1 in the AFC. They had their 11-game winning streak snapped by the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday, but can earn a first-round bye in the playoffs with wins over the Chiefs and Chargers to close the regular season.

And with a record that good, the Broncos deserve these Pro Bowl selections. Hopefully, they’re a nice footnote on what ultimately turns into a Super Bowl winning year.
