The team with the most steady quarterback position in all of the NFL is facing its biggest questions in more than a decade, and it comes just as they’re about to play the Denver Broncos.

In the last two weeks, the Kansas City Chiefs have not only been eliminated from the playoffs but have taken some major hits. Both star Patrick Mahomes and his capable backup, Gardner Minshew, have gone down for the rest of the season with knee injuries. This left KC with Chris Oladokun playing most of their loss against the Tennessee Titans.

The 28-year-old had never thrown a pass in the NFL before being thrust into action on Sunday, and now he’ll likely start against the Broncos on Christmas, which is a short week. Oladokun threw 16 times and completed 11 of those for 111 yards in the blowout defeat.

Kansas City signed another quarterback on Monday, Shane Buechele, who has never thrown a pass in the NFL. Buechele is about to turn 28 and was on the Bills practice squad, but was previously with KC a few years ago. He had a solid college career at SMU after some good action at Texas.

But it’s Oladokun who is likely to start. His college career included three starts, wrapping up at South Dakota State, where he threw for 3,164 yards and 25 touchdowns. In his lone season, 2021, leading the Jackrabbits, they went 11-4.

If it’s Oladokun or more unlikely, Buechele, they’ll go toe to toe as heavy underdogs against the Broncos on Christmas night.
